I usually don’t entertain emails offering products for me to try out because usually they are not worth the effort and it’s always something I really don’t need. But when I got a very short email from Chad at the Diabetic Sock Club I had a blister on my toe and ankle for no reason. Maybe it was that I was starting to wear shoes and runners again after being in lockdown for so much. The first question I asked was how much shipping would cost to Ireland as this is where most of my followers and readers live and he replied that they plan to ship internationally towards the end of 2021 and that they are currently focusing on their SEO rankings.
Anyway, even though my blister was healing quickly I thought I would give them a try. Before I go into my review, I want to give you some background on my usual foot care process. (disclosure at the end of this post)
My Usual Foot care Process
When I was diagnosed in the early 90’s I received many warnings about not going barefoot EVER but in real life this was impractical advice for a 20 years old. I adopted a more sensible approach of being very aware that if I have a foot wound I would take care of it promptly. I’ve also always stuck to well fitting shoes. I have an annual foot check at my local health service and sometimes one of the doctors at my diabetes clinic review will examine the pulse in my feet. I don’t have any neuropathy so I’ve been wearing seamed socks for all of my 28 years of living with diabetes. If you have been diagnosed with neuropathy then all of this advice applies 100%.
My Review
My socks were shipped from the US so they took a couple of weeks to arrive and my first impression was that they really didn’t look like I imagined or the website photo; they looked a bit on the big side and the fabric seemed very loose knit.
However, I was pleasantly surprised and they were a comfortable fit. We were still coming out of a phased lockdown in Ireland so I only had the opportunity to wear them out walking and they were very comfortable then too. However, once the weather got a little warmer I found my feet were getting too warm in them so I’ve put them in the back of the wardrobe until after summer.
I realised while writing this review that I haven’t tried any other specialist socks, so have nothing to compare this product to, which is something I didn’t consider when agreeing to do the review and which is a significant oversight. I know that many people who wear specialist socks get them from local supermarkets such as Aldi, Supervalu, etc. So I’m not sure that people will look for their socks overseas and pay international shipping.
Disclosure: I received two complimentary packs of socks to try out and review. I have not received any additional payment for this review.
