Diabetes Ireland’s Advocacy Group 2019
This group is made up of people living with diabetes and facilitated by Diabetes Ireland. We meet three to four times per year to discuss what advocacy projects Diabetes Ireland should focus on and collaborate to develop a strategy.

Diabetes Services in the Midwest 2018 to Present
Diabetes Ireland went public on the lack of services in the midwest region of Ireland. I have been collaborating with local and national politicians and fellow advocates in Limerick (the 2 Aisling’s) to address this issue on both levels.
In 2020, the Midwest Diabetes group was formed and launched a World Diabetes Day campaign for 2021. More information here.
Freestyle Libre Reimbursement for All People with type 1 diabetes 2018 to present
On January 19th, 2018, The Department of Health issued a statement announcing the HSE’s decision to approve reimbursement of the Abbott Freestyle Libre for Children and Young Adults with type 1 diabetes excluding all adults with type 1 diabetes. (What is the Freestyle Libre? See here).

Increase Funding for Diabetes Services 2016
On Wednesday 22nd June 2016 Diabetes Ireland, People with Diabetes and our National Clinical Leads in Diabetes Strategy briefed TD’s and Senators on the need for extra resources to improve the diabetes service for the 225,000 people living with the condition in Ireland today. I was part of that delegation and you can read more about it here.

Diabetes Ireland National Podiatry Campaign 2010 - 2014
In 2010, Diabetes Ireland launched Diabetes Action to push for national diabetes policies to be implemented in the health service. The first campaign in this three year roadmap was to implement the National Diabetic Foot Model of Care.
