Tuesday 20th October
8pm to 9pm
The Clare type 1 diabetes group has continued to meetup virtually during covid-19 and our next event will take place on Tuesday October 20th from 8pm-9pm, with guest speaker, Kerri Sparling.
Kerri Sparling is one of the first diabetes bloggers I followed when I discovered the diabetes online community way back when. Kerri has been living with Type 1 diabetes since 1986, diagnosed at the age of seven. She manages her diabetes and lives her life by the mantra “Diabetes doesn’t define me, but it helps explain me.”
Kerri is an internationally recognized diabetes advocate. She is the creator and author of Six Until Me, which from May 2005 to May 2019 was one of the most widely-read diabetes patient blogs, reaching a global audience of patients, caregivers, and industry.
She is also a writer, poet, and speaker who has dedicated her life to the power of the patient narrative. Since 2005, she has been a leading voice in the patient advocacy space, sharing her personal story of over 34 years with type 1 diabetes and helping share stories from others in the patient community. Kerri has worked to bolster the influence of patient stories in the healthcare space, from academic journals to keynote presentations around the world. She is best known for her work as a patient storyteller at SixUntilMe.com, and as author of Balancing Diabetes (2014) and the poetry anthology, Rage Bolus (2020). Keep up with Kerri’s latest works at KerriSparling.com
