In 2012, I donated my time to redesigned Diabetes Ireland’s logo when they were re-branding.
Our support group meetings have led to organising diabetes information events with healthcare professionals. I also participate raising the finances for these events. While fundraising isn’t helping others so much, it is enabling us to maintain our support groups and spread awareness about diabetes outside of our community. I feel it’s very important to help others understand us and why we need what we need.
In May 2016, I was invited to speak at Future Health Summit, an international health care professional conference. It was a wonderful experience. I am not a professional speaker but I was reimbursed for my travel expenses.
On Wednesday 22nd June 2016 Diabetes Ireland, People with Diabetes and our National Clinical Leads in Diabetes Strategy briefed TD’s and Senators on the need for extra resources to improve the diabetes service for the 225,000 people living with the condition in Ireland today. I was part of that delegation and you can read more about it here.
On the way home in the car, as Rebecca drove, I was interviewed by ClareFM’s Morning Focus. Listen in here.
